Tioman is the largest and most populated island in the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It is also the island more impressive because it was discovered as a holiday destination for quite some time ago. It was the mythical magical island of Bali Hai in the production of Hollywood movie filmed in the South Pacific in 1958. In the 1970s, Time magazine hailed as one of the ten most beautiful islands in the world. In 2003, National Geographic found that amphibians and reptiles are rare and endemic to the island and once again put the island of Tioman in the limelight.


How Tioman Island got its name is as intriguing as the island and the people themselves. Is filled with myths and legends that the audience will love the story of its origin. The island has a couple of stories that included a story about a beautiful princess dragon of China, who stopped here to look for consolation after a terrible incident which made her heart and became an island. If you look carefully as you approach the island you can see the horns of the dragon, which served as focal points when the first trip to the island, either by water or air. These peaks are known as Dragon Peaks long before the Chinese seafarers referred to as "Tiong Man" and in recent years the name has been shortened and simplified "Tioman! Therefore, from this day on the island of Tioman is known as name and which remains today.
