Trekking
If you want to walk to the
neighbouring kampungs (villages), you may do
so. You could walk to Kampung Tekek and the walk takes about half an
hour, Juara (2- 3 ½ hours depending on your level of
fitness) or Salang
(70 minutes). It is advisable for you to go by boat to these
kampungs/villages such as Genting, Paya, Mukut and Nipah, but if you
insist on the walk, you will need a local guide to bring you there. If
you enjoy nature, trekking to the waterfall is something that you might
want to do while you are on Tioman Island. Not only you will enjoy the
invigorating walk but you get to know more about the flora and fauna as
Tioman offers a variety of species of plants and animals
Tioman
offers species of plants such as the Rafflesia, a variety of plants and
ferns, snakes, insects, mouse deer, porcupines, monitor lizards,
turtles and many other creepy crawlies. For bird watchers, you may want
to bring along your binoculars as it will be a worthwhile experience
for you to see a variety of birds on the island. During the months of
November until March, you may get to see migratory birds such as white
heron, pelicans, wild geese and many other bird species as these birds
stop over at Tioman Island to rest from the blistering winters of their
countries.
